About Better NPC Plus

Every NPC of your custom map, turned into BetterNpc spawn points. Automatically: no commands, no setup.

Better NPC Plus replaces the NPCs of a custom map with BetterNpc and NpcSpawn NPCs, and it does it in three ways.

  • RustEdit NPC spawners. The spawners map makers place in RustEdit (Scientist, Peacekeeper, HeavyScientist, JunkpileScientist, Bandit, Murderer and Scarecrow) each become a BetterNpc spawn point.
  • Native NPC spawns of map prefabs. Prefabs placed on the map that bring their own vanilla NPCs, such as tunnel or desert dwellings on the surface, become BetterNpc spawn points too.
  • Every other native NPC of the game. Event scientists, deep sea patrol boats, the Chinook, junk piles, tunnels and the monuments where BetterNpc keeps the vanilla NPCs are replaced by NpcSpawn NPCs. Junk pile NPCs disappear with their junk pile, and boat and helicopter crews stay seated with the boats' autopilot still working.

The new NPCs use the presets of BetterNpc's official monuments (Soldier, Mercenary, Hired-gun, The-Sentry, Homeless, Machinist, Sea Bandit and more), mixed at random for each NPC type, and everything stays configurable from BetterNpc itself.

It writes one BetterNpc file per place in oxide/data/BetterNpc/Custom/, following BetterNpc's own layout: spawn points that stand close together share a file, a RustEdit monument marker gives the file its location, and respawn times come from the map's own spawners. Your changes to those files are kept, they are never overwritten. When the server runs a different map, the files of the old map switch off on their own and switch back on when that map returns.

Shopkeepers, vendors, mission givers, NPCs inside safe zones and NPCs made by other plugins are never touched. The work is done once, when the plugin loads; after that it only steps in when the game spawns a native NPC, taking its place in the spawn group, so the server never ends up with more NPCs than vanilla.

Installation

  1. Make sure BetterNpc and NpcSpawn are installed and working, and that the RustEdit extension (Oxide.Ext.RustEdit.dll) is installed, as every custom map needs it.
  2. Copy BetterNPCplus.cs into oxide/plugins/.
  3. That is all. It works on the next server start, or straight away on a running server.

The full guide, with the configuration options and the default presets for each NPC type, is in the README inside the download.
