Rust Printed and Polished Update (November 2026): What’s New for Servers and Players
The "Printed and Polished" update arrived this month, delivering a major Blueprint Rework, a new Uzi 9mm SMG, and extensive performance optimisations alongside numerous quality-of-life tweaks.
Blueprints are now split into fragments, pages and books, removing the need for fragments at workbenches and changing early-game progression.
Everything here comes from Facepunch’s official notes, Printed and Polished, summarised for server owners and players.
What changed
- Blueprint tiers: Three blueprint currencies (fragments, pages, books) replace the old fragment-only system and are used to advance tech trees.
- Workbench scrap changes: Salvage upgrades now have a 20% chance to not consume a blueprint; prototype upgrades have a flat 25% success rate and no cost doubling.
- Uzi 9mm: New SMG with foldable stock: folded = automatic (shield-compatible), unfolded = semi-automatic with higher accuracy; fire-mode button toggles modes.
- Gamepad support: Full controller input via Steam Input, including stick-cursor inventory and a D-pad toggle in the new gamepad options screen.
- Livestock overhaul: Cows no longer age or starve, UI shows ownership, pregnancy, milk, dung, and trough capacity; breeding limits and lead distance are adjusted.
- Shears weapon: Craftable at Level 1 workbench; yields more wool and cannot damage sheep on a miss.
- Deep sea lighthouse: Repairing any lighthouse instantly starts the deep-sea cycle for all lighthouses; maps without one begin with the cycle active.
- Crocodile Pie: Cooked from crocodile meat; intimidates most wildlife and provides a longer-duration version.
- Wool armour insert: Adds a Level 1 tech-tree armour piece that boosts melee/projectile protection slightly and cold resistance significantly.
- Scientist boats: Rare roaming boats now patrol the main island for up to an hour, engaging only geared players and appearing without map markers.

What server owners should check
- Blueprint settings: Ensure workbenches are set to use the new blueprint currencies; verify that scrap is still enabled for research tables.
- Gamepad options: Check the new gamepad settings screen for stick-cursor and D-pad toggle preferences to suit your player base.
